Lions Lock Down Cardinals to Advance in OHSAA Tournament

PEPPER PIKE, OH- The Orange Lions girls lacrosse team punched their ticket to the next round of the OHSAA Tournament with a strong defensive performance in a 7-2 victory over Cardinal Mooney.
Orange controlled the game from the opening draw, holding the Cardinals scoreless for more than three quarters. The Lions set the tone defensively early, taking a 1-0 lead after the first quarter before extending the advantage to 3-0 by halftime in a tightly contested defensive battle.
The Lions continued to build momentum in the second half, pushing the lead to 6-0 in the fourth quarter before Cardinal Mooney finally broke through with its first goal of the night with 6:27 remaining in the game.
Natalie Abruzzo paced the Orange offense with three goals and one assist, while Courtney Norton added two goals in the victory. Callyn Schreibman and Alyse Wagenberg each found the back of the net as well for the Lions.
With the win, Orange advances to the next round of tournament play and will travel to face Uniontown Lake on Monday at 5 p.m.
